I have a six year old son and a senior dad with ongoing health challenges. He lives at home with an aide. My mom passed away 10 years ago.

I have seventeen year old son, going away to school. My mother lives out of state. Her health is not great and she refuses to move into an independent living center. I am tired of commuting from NY to MD.

Question: For those of you who are caring for children and elders, what is one service that you would use in order to make your life easier and more balanced?

Caring for the woman who first helped us care for our brand new baby when she was diagnosed with a gobal glioblastoma less than a year later was hard in ways I didn’t expect. My own father is beginning to need more assistance. She’s now in FL. He’s in PA. We’re in NY.

Jennifer, I think your question must presume we live in the same area as children and elders do. What is the service that unites the communities? Maybe a vetting service so we can choose from among trusted handimen, or housekeepers or aides without starting searches from scratch.

Welcome to the group, Susan! I’ll have to check out your book and website! I started a side business in August, so I haven’t really kept up with this group like I wanted to. One of the my other business plans that I have been working on (on and off) is one that will focus on individuals in this sandwich generation. Currently, we are in the process…[Read more]

Good luck with the move. I’m happy to try to help whenever you are ready, although I’m sure there are experts on executive moms who are crackerjacks at analyzing business plans.

This summer, my mother-in-law passed away from a vicious brain tumor. It was so hard to share our home and our lives when she was sick, but as we come through her passing as a family, I find myself extremely grateful we had the time with her and brought any sense of peace or joy to her while she was still with us. And grateful to have been able to…[Read more]

Kimberly,
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Your mother-in-law was very fortunate to have you and your husband to take care of her during her final months. Some of life’s most challenging times are the most rewarding ones in the end. Thank you for sharing your story. -

I’m really thinking about tapping this as the theme of the next Executive Moms event – as soon as I can get one PLANNED! What do you think?

I love the idea. So many of us are responsible for both our parents, our little ones and the rest of our familes.
