Someone asked me recently if I enjoyed reading and I responded that yes I was a voracious reader but I wasn’t always that way. As a child I didn’t really enjoy reading, I felt it was little boring. It wasn’t until many years later that I began to find books and material that really stimulated by ideas. I am really selective about my reading and there are a few authors which I enjoy tremendously. Some of the are John Maxwell, Dr. Henry Cloud, Og Mandino, Max Lucado, Dr Kevin Leman, Seth Godin and Dan Miller. I also enjoy the books I have read from Dr. Robert Rohm from Personality Insights and I look forward to his newsletter each week. In this weeks My Wired Style Podcast on itunes, we talk about something that really got my attention in his newsletter. It read Tip: Always waste the first two minutes!

Now wasting time is something I avoid, unless of course its when I’m vegging out in front of the TV, then I justify it as relaxing. But seriously, I strive to accomplish a lot and wasting time as not been a path to accomplishment but then I went on to read Dr Rohm’s article, where he described a music teacher who had one little girl that was going to her for lessons. The teacher, who was knowledgeable in personality wirings realized that this little girl who had strong I wiring needed the first 2 minutes to tell the teacher a story, about an adventure anything just so she could talk and have the teachers attention for those 2 minutes. And by ‘wasting’ those 2 minutes the young child was able to concentrate on her lesson for the next 28.

Of course we know that is not wasted time at all…its investing in the ir connection and it smoothed the path for a productive lesson!

I encourage each of us to discover our wiring, our family, co-workers and friends and enjoy the connection!
