“The words you choose to say something are just as important as the decision to speak.” Author Unknown
We created and play the ‘Did I Tell You You’re Awesome Game?’ every day in our house. What started as a tender moment between my husband and I has turned into a game that changed our family.

My husband and I began the game while on a romantic getaway. We then came home and began using it with our kids. It spread, and now we play it with everyone in our life. The game is simple and the rules are as follows:

The person leading the game asks the following questions. The person playing along says ‘no’ to each question. Then the person leading makes the statement. The deal is the person playing must always play along and say no. To play the game, you simply ask questions.

Did I tell you you’re awesome? You are awesome!
Did I tell you I love you? I love you!
Did I tell you thank you? Thank you!
This simple game is just that – simple. I believe that we need to get back to doing the simple things. Sometimes we forget to do and say the things we mean the most. Our game is a reminder to say the words we need to say to each other every day.

Variations/Suggestions:

Add because after the affirmation. For example:
You are awesome because you are a great friend.
Thank you because you helped pick up the house.
I love you because you help me be a better person.

Add new statements to the game. For example:
Did I tell you you’re fabulous?
Did I tell you you’re wonderful?
Did I tell you you’re beautiful?
Did I tell you you’re marvelous?
Did I tell you you’re extraordinary?

My 8 year old son created one that goes like this: “Mama, did I tell you you’re the best mama in the whole world?” I say “no.” then he says, “You’re the best mama in the whole world.”

Adjust the above to fit with your family. I now use the following to my kids:
Did I tell you you’re the best little son in the whole world?
Did I tell you you’re the best daughter in the whole world?
Did I tell you you’re the best big son in the whole world?
Did I tell you you’re the best husband in the whole world?

Play the game with notes.
Place ‘Did I tell you you’re awesome?’ notes in backpacks, briefcases, and purses.

Use it at work.
Tell someone they are awesome or that they did an awesome job. I guarantee you will make their day.

Challenge:
Before you go to bed tonight tell someone you love that they are awesome.
