– Read With Me

We’ve been a bookish state-of-mind of late.  Which could fairly beg the question, "you have time to read?"  But as we have gone on a self-imposed News Diet (cutting back, not total deprivation), books have become (again) our favorite fat-free comfort food.  As such:

Consider Browsing the Pages of One of Our Favorite Web Applications: WeRead

If you don’t have time for an actual book club (as we no longer seem to), this application– the most popular book-related app on the web– is a bit of a substitute (or, you can use it to actually find a book club to join).  Look for readers with interests like yours (and if you install it as a Facebook application, you can see what your friends there who have also installed it are reading).  Personally, we like it as a little archive and reminder of what we’ve already read and loved… and a source for great affinity recommendations.   (So, for example, if you loved "Three Cups of Tea," as we wrote about last week, you can read reviews of it, post it to your own Reads, or find other books deemed of comparable interest.

Take a look at WeRead.com.  And in the meantime: what have you read lately?  Tell us on the Executive Moms Network; we’d really like to know!

Wearable Words (That Help a Great Cause)

In keeping with this theme, we are charmed by a limited edition collection of bracelets from Carolee, celebrating worthy words from seven contemporary women writers.  This “Authors’ Words To Live By” series features an iconic quote on a sterling silver bangle bracelet that retails for $100 — which 10% of sales benefiting the not-for-profit organization Literacy Partners.  Those authors and quotes:

“Never give up your dreams.” By Danielle Steel
“Love is never used up, just passed on.” By Joyce Carol Oates
“Attraversiamo. Let’s cross over.” By Elizabeth Gilbert
"Always wear an unbelievable dress – it’ll get you everything you want." By Plum Sykes
“Dream… Then make it happen.”  By Cecelia Ahern
“When I teach I am the best of who I am.” By Anisha Lakhani
“Live Your Wonder” By Marisha Pessl

A Circus Winner

Thanks to everyone who pronounced "I want circus tickets" following last week’s "Executive Momorandum."  We picked one random winner from among you (and sorry we could only pick one).  That winner, who will get 4 tickets to see the newest Ringling Bros. production, "Zing Zang Zoom" on March 26th is Mary Blanusa of New Jersey.  (Congratulations)!
