We couldn’t be the only ones who have been teased for a constant-yet-elusive quest for the perfect family photo, yes? And this being crunch time for that ONE (just one!) good photo for a holiday card, we sought a little professional help (from Executive Moms’ photographer, Cathy Pinsky)…
Last minute tips for taking that fabulous family photo:
A few more to consider:
- The Family Clown finally serves a purpose: if there is an accessible friend or relative who happens to have a knack for making your kids laugh– see if they can be on hand.
- Think strategically about the time of day: for instance, a family photo shoot scheduled on the heels of a 4-hour car trip, with spotty napping, is NOT the most ideal photo session timing. (Not that we speak from experience).
- Play wardrobe stylist: Okay, perhaps you’ve gently mocked cards from others in which every family member is in a perfectly coordinated outfit, but in truth, a little synchronicity with the attire just looks good. However, we happen to be partial to giving the predictable a little twist– like formal dresses, with bare feet .
Creating the Card:
- For cards where you adhere or insert the photo: opt for matte prints (they don’t show fingerprints when you’re up late one night assembling).
- Another great tip– order prints with a border to create the look of a frame, without an actual one.
- For digital photo cards: shop online companies that offer quick turnaround, personal service and a digital proof you can first approve. If you’ve found a vendor you like, do a quick search for promotion codes; most are running special offers now and the savings can be significant.
- It costs to be square: beautiful as they are, just remember that square cards come with a postage premium.
