Perhaps you’ve become far more expert these days in a whine list than a wine list. Even so, when the occasion presents itself– for an important business dinner, or even a good grown-ups’ night out– to select the perfect accompaniment to a meal, why shouldn’t you do the ordering, and with conviction?

eWINEMatch is a new, text-mesaging service that lets you skip the sommelier…

Like a mobile Cliffs Notes for food and wine, this just-launched service leverages a database compiled by culinary experts to provide instant suggestions of well-suited wines for the meal (or main ingredients of a dish) that you’ve specified.

How it works:

Send a text message to 411-511 (from right at the table, if you are a discreet enough phone-in-the- lap texter), noting the meal you need matched. (You can even tell them simply “Mexican” or “Traditional Italian”). Within moments you will receive back 3 wine recommendations to go with your choice. We hear that most of these are widely available in restaurants, and in the $20-and-under price range, ratcheting up its value that much more.

Incidentally, should you be ordering sushi…

We text-messaged them about “tuna, yellowtail and salmon sushi” and 30 seconds later were in possession of the new knowledge that “Meridian Santa Barbara Chardonnay, the Little Penguin Pinot Noir and Matua Sauvignon Blanc” might all be fine companions.

(You can sample yourself to see if you concur)…
