Every good mom has at times demonstrated the qualities of a saint. So who better than a mother to have the opportunity to be a real angel?

That was the underlying thought behind the creation of Project Angel Mom…

It could have just been “Project Angel” we presume, but it took the compassion and resourcefulness of a go-getter mom to create an initiative that makes it easy to connect “moms-in-deed” with “families-in-need.”

The inspiration: you know those endless news stories we all see that break your heart and make you want to reach through the TV to the poor person or family affected? It was the one about the parents who put their children through college by recycling over 8 million cans (hmm…) that touched one former magazine editor enough to send a check… until she realized she had no idea where to send it.

Turning the “news” into good news…

When it turned out that other friends had had the same inclination, inclination became action with this effort to make it easier for moms (and others) to mobilize on behalf of at least a deserving few. Each month, there is a featured story straight from the headlines. Right now, it’s Shykem’s story: a high school football player from New Jersey who suffered a severe spinal cord injury and is fighting back… Last month it was Danielle’s story, a 12-year-old Michigan girl who managed to rescue her whole family from a house fire (but the family wound up without personal belongings or a home).

With each story are details and a quick link so you can give some quick help. Their e-cards, so you can make a donation as a gift in honor of someone else, are another nice touch.
