Even without having expressed an interest in becoming a future Pixar animator, most every child finds a fascination with both crayons… and cartoons. While on a recent trip to Miami, we discovered a novel company that bridges that gap to bring children’s best 2-D imaginations to life…

Little Director lets your children “direct” their artwork into an animated video

The company works on two different levels– with individuals and with school groups— to turn children’s ideas and illustrations into mini-movies in which they can feel great excitement and pride.

For the individual child:
Your child supplies one favorite drawing. Then with a little parental help, they are asked to complete an Information Form which invites them to conceive how their drawing will be turned into a movie. Questions they need to answer include: What is the title of your movie? The names of the characters? What do you want to movie story to be about?

Within a few days after submitting this form along with their drawing, you receive back a 5-minute animated “movie” of their drawing, on a DVD. Minimum cost is $65 (which covers 1 background and 2 characters; additional characters are $20 each).

For school groups:
With classroom projects, Little Director’s objective is to promote collaboration between children, by coaching them on how to bring their ideas together into one storyboard that will be turned into an animated movie. Each child is encouraged to draw a picture that speaks to one part of an overall theme and each child becomes in charge of that aspect of the video’s story. Together, the class creates the storyboard, with video directions that they write, which the Little Director animators use as their blueprint.

Ultimately, every child receives a diploma and their own copy of their 7-10 minute movie on DVD. The cost for a classroom project starts at $300 Recommended ages for a Little Director movie project are 4-14 (though the enjoyment of the end product is ageless)…
