The Executive Moms Spring Luncheon, “I KNOW How She Does It,” produced many great nuggets of wit and wisdom. In fact, it inspired us to spin it into a new regular, interactive Momorandum feature, in which we’ll share by theme some of those nuggets we gathered… and then ask all of you to share even more…

I KNOW How She Does It: TAKING TIME OUTS
(Here’s a sampling of what you told us on the subject of Taking Time Outs… or even time off):

  • “Remember, at least occasionally, to make your lunch hour– YOUR lunch HOUR”
  • “Try playing ‘Hotel Hookey’: the next time you take a business trip, extend for a night, and make that night just for you”
  • “Indulge in regular manicures and pedicures” (incidentally, this was a very recurrent sentiment)
  • “Practice saying ‘no’ (or at least turn an automatic ‘yes’ to whatever you are being asked to do, to ‘can I get back to you on that’?”
  • “Realize that smokers have one healthy thing going for them: the cigarette break (the break being the healthy part). Whether it’s for a Starbucks, a pack of gum, or just a little fresh air, take your own break and try to get out of the office for even 5 minutes; it can really clear your head”
  • “If all else fails, the occasional Ambien at night is a godsend when sleep is the time out you need most”
  • “Schedule a regular Girls Night Out with girlfriends; one night every so often can go a long way”
  • “USE your vacations and use them to really get away from it all”
  • “Take an occasional personal day to use just for you– to go shopping, see a movie, get a massage– actually make it a ‘me’ day”
