Arguably it’s still among the noblest of professions (and often one of the more undervalued). With that in mind, as the school year winds to a close, consider offering the one thing that might mean most to their teachers

Your THANKS.

Teacherscount.org, a non-profit organization committed to garnering recognition and benefits for teachers, has partnered this spring with Hallmark to provide a special collection of teacher-themed e-greeting cards, that enable your child and you to express appreciation to teachers that have made a difference during this school year. The cards are flash-enabled, can be personalized… and they’re free, via either Hallmark.com or Teacherscount.org.

With an E-card or not, it’s just good to say thanks.

As an alternative, Teachers Count recommends any simple but thoughtful gesture that shows a little appreciation. A few examples: have children write their teacher a letter with specific examples of how that teacher taught and inspired them; send a note to the principal to recognize any particularly outstanding teachers… or if spending a little money is copacetic all around, donate a few needed classroom supplies.

Though they may not resolve all the issues the teaching profession faces, research shows such gestures can go a long way; second to pay, teachers rank the lack of status and respect for their profession as their biggest problem.

Surely, you’ll say so long for summer with at least an A for Effort…
