Somewhere along the way, pictures seem to have become taboo in “real” books, even in books for younger people. Yet when two budding authors, inspired by their own love of comic books and graphic novels, conducted research, they were surprised to find that librarians love graphic books for young people and in fact wished there were more… because they get kids to READ.

Thus a new graphic book series for kids 6-12 was conceived: THE STINKY BOYS CLUB

As the name suggests, the authors were particularly interested in filling the void in books geared to young boys… thus “The Stinky Boys Club” books are duly filled with silly jokes, bodily noises and a recipe for throw-up. (Yet those surprising librarians even endorsed this too, again with the belief a dose of gross can provide just the appeal to captivate young readers).

The first book in the series, “Enough is Enough,” introduces readers to Sam, his twin sister MJ and their friends

With story lines that incorporate authentic kid situations, the books are as much about girl power as boy bonding, so young female readers should be equally engaged. (In fact, true to life: sometimes those stinky boys come out on top; sometimes MJ and her pals do. Importantly, though, each characters has charms… and flaws).

Just out now: the next in the series: “Winner Takes All.” Though the books were intended for kids 9-12, many parents are finding that their younger children love them as well (aided– yup– by the fabulous illustrations)…
