– NY METRO EDITION –

Not every “executive mom” title comes with an office (and childcare). In recognition of this, a new facility is opening next week to meet the needs of an important segment of mothers who work.

TWO ROOMS is a new, non-profit space in Manhattan that provides a combination of office space for you, and supervised play for little ones in tow.

The concept was originated by a professional writer and mother, after she searched to no avail for a solution that could meet her combined needs for flexible childcare, a workspace, and peers with whom she could interact. A brainstorm, a business plan and a couple of successful grant applications later, TWO ROOMS is due to open on the Upper West Side of Manhattan this Monday, February 28th.

It’s purpose: to offer a new paradigm that combines Office Space, Childcare and Community in one setting.

Two Rooms is particularly geared for mothers of younger children (read: not in school for many hours a day) and those with “nontraditional” work lives (i.e. freelancers, consultants, part-time professionals, those in the arts and the self-employed).

How it works:

Once you become a member ($175/year), you can book a session whenever you need. Sessions come in a minimum of one-week increments (with full-day or half-day options). Members will find that there is literally one room for parents: with work space and office equipment, plus a communal lounge space… and one room for children: with licensed childcare-givers fostering a nursery- like environment, featuring activities ranging from storytime, music, art, waterplay… and naptime.

Relative to the cost of traditional childcare (not to mention NY office space), Two Rooms is well-priced, ranging from $250 for a 5 half-days of communal workspace + childcare, to $500 for 5 full-days of childcare + a semi- private work cubicle. (No charge for the bonding with other parents/professionals that should ensue).

To mark their opening, Two Rooms has a Special Introductory OFFER:
Become a member now and you can purchase 3 Anytime Days of Childcare + Communal Work Area for $225 (which equates to $8/hr). One per customer; offer expires March 31, 2005.

Already plans are in the works for an after-school program and other offerings that will expand the audience they can serve. Though it is expected that the Manhattan location will ldraw city-dwellers most, Two Rooms’ uniqueness should make it a worthy resource for parents like this across the area. (Plus its founder tell us future locations may follow)… For more information, call 212-662-0845 or visit:
