No executive mom relishes that particularly mournful look from children when they watch you pack a suitcase for a business trip. While kids may never love when you go away, there’s a brand new series of books designed to mitigate those emotions by helping kids understand and feel involved with their parents’ business travel.

New “Sometimes I Work In” books help connect kids to business traveling parents

Conceived by a parent who was travelling a great deal on business, this new series– subtitled “What I Do When I’m Not With You”– focuses on one city per book, and is designed to share with your child either before or after your trip.

Written with input from an Emory University psychologist,

each brightly illustrated paperback covers business trip basics like packing, traveling by plane, meetings, staying in a hotel, and coming home. What we particularly like is that they are constructed to spark a discussion with your kids, asking them to guess what you need to do before you leave the office, or when you first arrive, or what you did at the hotel. As importantly, each book asks “What do you do when I’m not with you?”

Plus, each book has a detachable postcard that you can mail back to your kids.

However, even after you’ve used the postcard, if you make multiple trips to the same city, the interactive nature of these books make them a fresh vehicle for discussion each time you travel.

The series currently features 4 cities… but more are coming.

Current offerings are “Sometimes I Work In… New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Fort Lauderdale. Soon to come are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Denver, with others to follow as well. Each book retails for $10.95 and can be found in airports, on Amazon.com, or at their website:
