If you have a budding American Idol in the house (even if, ‘fess up, it’s you), but don’t quite feel the need to commit to a karaoke machine to accompany all your other gadgetry…

Simply Turn On The Computer, And Sing Along.

Believe it or not, one of our favorite finds for this is a site put together by a couple of government agencies, including the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (under the theme of “Young and Young and Heart”). Not the most likely source for a sing-along, sure, but it’s actually quite well- stocked with well-loved kids songs, as well as more grown-up classics from “All You Need is Love” to “YMCA” (that’s a classic, right)?

Note, too, for parents of the Disney-obsessed: check out the “Movies and Musicals” section and you can finally figure out the lyrics to the theme to “Sleeping Beauty” (and many others). Personal confession? Our favorites our the Broadway show tunes.

While There, Check Out Their Other Great Kids Pages, Too

When ready to retire the microphone, the NIEHS’s site has additional kids pages filled with brainteasers, games, puzzles, jokes and stories– many with a science education bent. What it all lacks in slickness it makes up for in being blissfully commercial free. Who knew the government could be so much fun?
