It’s a particular dilemma of parents of younger children… how to enjoy dining out, with kids in tow? Savvy restauranteurs/entrepreneurs have seized upon this issue and are devising clever solutions to appeal to grown-ups and their little ones alike.
Newcomer PLAYDINE is a kids playcenter within a restaurant, letting kids play, while grown-ups can sit, dine and enjoy themselves
PlayDine takes an underused restaurant party room and has transformed into a kids’ play center, so when the kids have had their fill, they can do their thing in a safe, activity-filled space of their own. A seasoned staff attends to the kids and provides appropriate security measures for checking them in and out, allowing their adults to retire to the upstairs restaurant and really enjoy a meal. (Though the menu is basic pub fare, the experience compensates). Newly founded in November in its first location (The Big City Bar and Grill on Manhattan’s Upper East Side), its owners already have plans to expand the concept.

LA BELLE EPOQUE takes the same concept and Jazzes it up for Sunday Brunch
Though usually a sophisticated downtown supper club, given that one of its owners is a mom herself, periodic Sunday Jazz Brunches are now highly baby-friendly. Amidst the mimosas, live Jazz, and a brunch Buffet, on select Sundays La Belle Epoque rolls out the baby rug and encourages the little ones to romp, providing toys exersaucers, playpens and the like.
Next special brunch is March 13th. Cost is $20/adult, and as may be evident, it’s geared particularly to parents of the toddler-and-under set.
