Remember what a rite of passage it was to get one of those diaries with a little gold lock and key? The idea that you might have thoughts important enough to keep under high security seemed tantalizing. Imagine, then, how much more tantalizing, and scarier, it would be to take your diary now, and share it with the world in a book.

I know. I did it. Along with 529 other women. The book is “THIS DAY: DIARIES FROM AMERICAN WOMEN” — in bookstores now

What made Tuesday, October 15, 2002 so special? Nothing in particular — and that was the point. But it was a day in which over 500 women from around the country kept a diary of their day, 35 of which have been culled into this book. Together, they represent a cross-section of American women, from an Illinois schoolteacher to a Hollywood actress, from the President of the National Organization for Women to a woman in jail, to a former attorney who is now a stay- at-home mom to a mother who is continuing her career (and running an organization called Executive Moms)!

Personally, participating in this book project was a great experience; yet it’s even more fascinating now to read them all, and peek into the most intimate aspects of our lives to see what we all really do, think and feel. As a reviewer from US Weekly wrote, “”This Day” is as addictive as any reality TV show but with one real difference. The book lures you in with its amazingly candid details of women’s lives, but it also leaves you feeling truly inspired.” (Hey, if there’s anything we’re for, it’s that).
