In fact, we’re not even sure it will end up as the biggest payout in your portfolio. But the sure thing is that investing in it can help create an even bigger payout… for the advancement of women in the workplace.
Your Dollars Do Double Duty in the Women’s Equity Mutual Fund
The WEMF (symbol: FEMMX) is part of a trend toward “socially responsible” investing. It’s a no-load growth fund started in 1993 with this unique criteria: it only puts money into public companies that are deemed to be advancing the social and economic status of women in the workplace.
The fund’s #1 goal? To make its investors (most of whom are women) MONEY. But the parallel goal is to make that money via backing those companies that have the strongest policies with regards to hiring, supporting and promoting women.
350 Companies Now Fit Their Pro-Women Criteria
Those companies range from smaller, newer firms to Fortune 500s. Included in the roster are: AIG, Merck, Avon, Wells Fargo, Dell, Costco, Fannie M’, Alberto-Culver and Bank America. Of course, since money does talk, as the Fund gains influence, so too should the number of companies that meet their standards for women.
Of course, make sure you investigate their performance and see if it meets your standards. Along with much of the market, the fund has in fact been down over the past 1-3 years, though it is performing ahead of the S&P 500.
