Because it might be nice to go for a ride (or rides) without having to take a really long ride to get there… this summer, an old- fashioned family amusement park has come right to the center of Manhattan:

Step right up to VICTORIAN GARDENS AT WOLLMAN RINK

Creating new use for the rink long after the ice is gone for the season (alas, we can’t say the same for the puddles), this Central Park destination has become home this summer to a lovely little amusement park. Enjoy traditional family rides like the Samba Balloon, the Tea Cup, the Red Baron and the Circus Train. Games and food are on hand as well.

Maybe it’s the weather (or their lack of an advertising budget), but Victorian Gardens is still a surprisingly underexposed new fun spot. So far, it seems relatively uncrowded– another reason to think of Central Park as the city’s best oasis of leisure.

Victorian Gardens is open daily through September 7th, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm

Admission is $15.00 per person. Children under 36″ tall enter free with a paid admission. (It’s also available for parties and special events). Enter through the park at 59th Street and 6th Avenue; the rink is just to the north.
