It was wonderful to enjoy the company of so many of you (150!) at last Tuesday’s Executive Moms Winter Luncheon. Clearly, there was a hunger for answers to many different questions on childcare, and were it not for the pressing schedules so many of us have, the Q&A with our panel could have really kept going! So for those who were there– and for those who were not there– here’s a brief recap of the panelists and their resources so that you can learn more:

ALL ABOUT NANNIES

As this is the form of childcare Executive Moms utilize most, a majority of the questions centered around life with nanny! We had two great experts focused on the subject. And to accomodate the many unanswered questions, one of these experts, Janet Cook, director of My Child’s Best Friend Nanny Agency, is working on them for us now! We’ll dedicate a subsequent Momorandum to some of her answers. In the meantime, if you are interested in talking with Janet directly, her email address is: DHARMA1968@AOL.COM.

Our second nanny expert, Judy Lederman, dubbed the “Childcare Crusader,” had a very practical perspective on what the nanny/employer relationship should be (and shouldn’t be). You can learn more about Judy and contact her through visiting her website:

AU PAIRS

Au Pairs seem to be one of those options that intrigue many, though there is less overall awareness and understanding of them. As such, Tine Kryger, Westchester Area Director of Au Pair Care, helped shed some light on the specific nature of entering into an au pair relationship.

If you live in the Westchester area and are interested in specific information, Tine can be reached at APCTKRYGER@HOTMAIL.COM, or anyone can learn more at:

BACK UP CHILDCARE

Rounding the panel was Rosemary Jordano, the inspirational founder and CEO of Children First, the nation’s largest provider of corporate-sponsored back- up childcare. Rosemary opened many eyes to the importance of this kind of resource… and explained that it is a resource even small companies can implement as a benefit. To learn more about back-up childcare and to find out how you might be able to obtain this benefit in your workplace, visit their website at:

Finally, our panel would not have been complete without the moderating talents of Faith Wohl, President of Childcare Action Campaign. In the midst of all our individual pressing questions, Faith reminded us all of the importance of raising our voices on a national level to advocate for good childcare for all children. If you’d like to learn more about the efforts of Childcare Action Campaign, visit their wesbite at WWW.CHILDCAREACTION.ORG. One last point: don’t forget that your best resource is indeed one another.
