Do you know the book "The Paradox of Choice?" Its
treatise is that the vast array of choices we have as consumers can overwhelm
our overtaxed brains... and make us less happy as opposed to more so (900
channels and nothing on).
The founders of GiftHero.com clearly understood the Paradox of Choice when they
created their site.

If you've hit the toy section of a big box retailer (or tried to navigate the
toy pages of Amazon.com), surely you can identify with the motivation behind
GiftHero.com: to make it easier and more
satisfying for parents to buy gifts for kids' birthday parties. This new
site was founded, in fact, by two moms who (in true 'executive mom' style) would
try to tackle items on their To Do list in the middle of their corporate days by
squeezing in a little online birthday gift shopping. Finding this neither fast
nor fruitful, they've carefully selected an assortment of children's gifts that
meet their criteria for the kind of toys they'd like their own children to
receive.
Items on the site are easily shoppable by 3 main criteria: age, gender (unisex
is an option too) and price. The age target is a little narrow; toys featured
are really oriented to 3 to 7 year-olds (though a new section for kids age 8-10
is in the process of going live). Toys skew toward the classic and creative,
with a notable absence of licensed characters.
A couple of other admirable extras: you can opt for their
reusable gift tote (a fun and
eco-friendly alternative to paper wrap)... or opt to add a $1 (or more) add-on
charge to your order, which they in turn give back entirely
to charity (Head Start), to help
children for whom giving really matters.
It only takes a couple of minutes to browse through the selections that match
the kind of gift for which you are shopping. For some, that might be a
disappointment. For many busy moms, that may just be the best gift of all.
