Do you WANT to get to the TOP
Based on our recent event theme, "A View From the Top," how important is rising to the top of your career? Do you aspire to be a CEO now? What seems harder, and easier, as a mother the further you've risen?

Comment I thought the comments were interesting. I just wonder if the topic of working from home was addressed? I have a two year old, and a nanny who I'm grateful for, but I still find working from home a challenge....striking the balance between work and time with my son, and not feeling awful when he sees me, but I have to do work in my office. Would be curious to hear your take on this type of situation. Thanks.

Comment I was not interviewed, but as an executive mom I read this thinking "these women are right on the money" with respect to their mindset about "balance", guilt, the critical importance of spousal support, and taking care of our own needs. The only thing I would add as a suggestion to keep guilt from rearing it's ugly head is something that's worked well for me in the past. When my kids ask "why do you have to go to work Mommy," I reply "because Mommy LIKES to work...it's a good thing for Mommy to work" NEVER "because Mommy HAS to work." This reinforces for them that it's perfectly OK for a mother to want to work, and also sets a great example for them about the importance of work to our well-being. Thanks for sharing!

Comment I can really relate to the guilt the balance or lack there of and integration would be a wonderful thing so tell me...How does one do it. I need to do work in the office every evening and so my six month old who is not yet mobile is completely satisfied with mommy's funny faces, noises etc... as he plays on the floor next to me. I am thinking a/k/a worrying on how I am ever going to make this office child-proof. It seems next to impossible. I thought to baby gate an area would be best. Any ideas~I know I should probably work less, but you know how the story goes.
