| The Bitch In The House |
| As our most recent event in NY centered on themes from the book "The Bitch in the House, " we thought we'd pull out one particular quote that struck us. In writing about her child one of the essayists observed: "There is no one in my life whom I've ever been so grateful to escape and so grateful to see." |

I had to write on this because I read the quote, and thought, "that's me." (though I might not have ever considered that I felt this way before seeing it articulated). |

For me, it's an interesting one-line description that speaks directly to the yin-yang of being a working mother. There are some Monday mornings where after a long weekend with 3 kids, I have to say, it's almost a relief to head out the door for work...but by the end of the day I feel my heart tugging in the other direction!... |

"Grateful to escape?" That seems a little ridiculous to me. Yes, I enjoy my downtime, and I generally enjoy my job (I work p/t as a sales director) but I also see motherhood as a privilege and as such leaving my children is always a little hard. |

To the previous post, you can deem motherhood a privilege but still acknowledge that there are times when a little absence really does make the heart grow fonder. This is HONEST! |

I was just talking to a friend last night and we both realized we spend most of your days yearning to get home to see our babies and our hearts tug all day...yet once we get there, we don't have the strength/patience/wherewithall to be the good mommies we know we are capable of being. Is this the curse for all working mothers? |

100% agree! It is as if she read my mind. And I totally agree about the relief of going back to work after a weekend with the kids, and yet the missing them while you are there ...
That author put it perfectly. |

How do you find the energy and time after work to be a good Mom, wife and housewife? |

I think the word escape is hard but I do relate. You get home and can't even find the time to open mail so it would be nice to have a half an hour before becoming "mom" full time. On the other token I could never imagine taking vacation without my son as I see him so little already. |

I totally agree, somedays more than others! It is a tug at your heart though, I do miss my boy's smiling sweet faces.....but it is nice to actually go to the bathroom during the day without someone looking for me!! |

My daughter is 11. Every day she always gives me something to smile about. As I watch her grow into the beautiful young woman God intended her to be, I find myself wanting to be around her more and more. However, she is now becoming more social and interacting with her peers so my time with her is less than it was. We plan "date nights" now. Boy does time go fast. I remember when she wouldn't let me out of her site. I miss it and I feel silly now that it ever really bothered me. |

You BET this reflects my experience! I have never had the guilt problem -- feeling like I should be with my son when I'm at work or working when I'm with my son -- but you can't do anything well if you never take a breath from it. (Should have learned that in college!) |

I saw Marisa on a NBC morning news program on or about 12/29, she did a segment about childcare places in Park Slope and at the 14 St YWCA where parents drop their children off rather going to a babysitter. I would like to get the addresses of these places. thank you for such agreat resource. |
